Knights & Castle Theme

We did a knights and castle theme at the beginning of the summer and Joey had a blast. Finally, I’m putting on the knight and castle themed activities together.

I have a few “how-to’s” coming this week for a knight’s shield and helmet. Here’s a list of the activities we did in relation to the theme:

How to Build a Castle

How to Make a Shield

How to Make a Helmet

Counting Jewels

I made a crown template, then traced it on construction paper, put stickers 1-10, and laminated it. We used our regular stash of colored beads as “jewels.”

Printables from Homeschool Creation’s Knight Preschool Pack

These were great and a lot of fun. We used the 3-part cards, castle puzzle, and the tracing/penmanship strips.

Books about Knights & Castles (non-fiction)

Knight (DK Eyewitness Books)

Castle and Knight (Eye Wonder)

Medieval Knights

The book in the first picture, Medieval Knights, was our favorite. It was concise and could be read (and keep Joey’s attention) in one sitting. It also introduced different concepts, like the difference between a page, squire, and knight.

Beware that some of the knight books are a bit graphic in regards to weapons and fighting. There were a few we ended up taking back.

Books about Knights & Castles (fiction)

Good Night, Good Knight

Take Care, Good Knight

A Cold Winter’s Good Knight

George and the Dragon

The Squire and the Scroll: A Tale of the Rewards of a Pure Heart

The Knight Who was Afraid to Fight

The Bravest Knight

The Knight and the Dragon

I love this theme! You have inspired me to make Knight/Castle themed trays. Thanks for the great idea. I shared your post on the Montessori MOMents facebook page and tweeted it. When I see a great idea, I have to share it. 🙂

Thanks! We really liked the knights & castles theme. Joey is still really into knights, which is why he dressed up as one for Halloween and we even had a knight themed birthday party! I didn’t think this love for all things knights would have lasted this long!

What a great theme – and you’ve done an awesome job with it! We loved studying about knights and castles when we homeschooled. Thank you for sharing your “how to” tutorials. And I love your counting crown jewels activity tray! Thanks so much for linking up with Montessori Monday. I bookmarked your post and featured it at the Living Montessori Now Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/LivingMontessoriNow.

Yes, I’m liking your whole learning series here. The costumes, the activities, the books. You’ve done a wonderful job putting everything together for a cohesive theme. Really well done.
