They Don’t Just Need You to Be at Home

IMG_6539

Having the opportunity to stay at home with our children is wonderful. But do you ever get so busy with the tasks of running your home and managing your family that you miss the first things? The reason why you decided to stay home in the first place?

I know I do.

My speed is almost always fast forward, but what my son and husband need more than a supermom is me.

They don’t just need me to be at home, they need to see me. And not just see me rush past with the laundry, hurry through dinner prep, or as I’m pulling the little ones out of carseats. They need that one-on-one, face-to-face interaction. Quality time.

Don’t just rush through your day, take time today…right now…to look at those reasons you stayed home in the face.

Be seen by them.

Thank you! It’s nap time now, but when they are up- I always feel the pull to clean or prepare something. Our house might not be perfect, but our kids know they are important!! Off to get ready to paint hand turkeys!!!!

    Hi there,

I’ve just recently started reading your blog as I’m trying to school my 25 mo ds using the montessori ideology. When he was 12 mo, we enrolled him in an excellent montessori school with an infant program. He spent 5 months there after which we had to relocate to another country for my husband’s job (now in New Caledonia: tiny speck of an island next to Australia!).

We still want him to go to daycare to get socialization (and to give me some breaks during the day). After trial and error, we found an excellent daycare here which isn’t called a montessori one but follows quite a few of them. Fortunately, our ds was admitted after we begged/pleaded/shed a tear (or two?) 🙂

He goes half day and comes back after lunch to spend the rest of the day with me. I previously used to have a house choking with toys, activities, games etc and ds just couldn’t focus or concentrate. Ever since I paired everything down, got a few shelves with a few work activities laid out, it had made tremendous difference. We also instilled the you return what you took out before you move to the next and so on. Ds is doing so much better and his focus and concentration span just keeps increasing.

I *LOVE* reading your blog and have gone back to read from the very beginning (just to see what can be done with infants). You’ve really inspired me to keep chugging through and being easy on myself when things don’t go as planned. And most importantly to remember what priorities are (being present for loved ones!) and not get lost in implementing theory!

Hope you continue on here and so much love,
    Amna

Anna, thank you so much for the sweet comment! I’m finding myself heading back to the archives to look up activities for my youngest. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get some new ones on soon too.

      Best of luck to you!
