I found this in my draft folder. Originally dated January 2010, thought I’d finally hit publish. 🙂
It’ll take longer.
It may get messy, but they’re learning–life, routines, seeing how stuff works, and making memories all the absorbed in meaningful work.
Let them help pour in the ingredients. Sugar may very well end up on the floor, I can attest to that!
Let them help with the laundry. Hand them clothes to put in the dryer.
When you need to close a door, ask them to do it with you. (This works especially well if said little one is trying to get into a no-touch zone.)
Have them carry things with you. A steady walker can carry his water cup or a book or basket as you direct him where to put it.
As you go about your day, think about the different ways your little one can help. It gives them a greater feeling of being a contributing part of your family.

So glad you shared. I’m a newbie to your blog, and am very excited to read more! My little guy puts the dishwasher soap in the little compartment. Then he hits the buttons to make the dishwasher start He seems to enjoy it. : )
So true, my 14mo follows me around the house and he loves doing little chores. It’s so much fun.
