Treasure Baskets

A treasure basket is a basket or box filled with a variety of items (usually 15 to 20) that are found around the house. The purpose of the activity is to provide the infant with the opportunity to explore and discover on their own.

The items in the basket should appeal to the 5 senses (sight, touch, taste, hear, smell) and made of varying materials, preferably natural materials. Through this activity the child will explore and experiment with the different objects seeing in what ways they can manipulate the materials: Can I roll it? Does it make a sound? What does it taste like? Is it smooth or rough? Can I put it in something else?

Treasure baskets are a great activity to have in your home that will allow your child to discover new things that they might not always see in a safe environment.
