Here’s some articles, videos, and blog posts I find useful and inspiring this week that I thought I’d share.
If there’s something you’ve found, Montessori related or not, that was inspiring or helpful in your home or family leave a comment and share a link!
Hope you enjoy!
- The New Montessori Parents’ Introduction to the Montessori Preschool Classroom (NAMC Montessori Teacher Training): It’s a brief overview of the daily happenings in a Montessori preschool environment. As well as important materials in the classroom like mats and aprons and also includes a brief description of practical life and sensorial. Good for those who are new to Montessori.
- Bringing Out the Brilliance in Your Infant Workbook (from Montessori Families): The video I shared yesterday is a clip from a 2-hour dvd called Bringing Out the Brilliance in Your Infant: A Guide to Child-Focused Parenting. The few clips they have posted on YouTube look really good, but the dvd is a little pricey. It’s $59. But they have a companion workbook that’s actucally online (see the first link). You can look through the table of contents and see what the dvd covers. It’s pretty comprehensive, covering topics from Montessori philosophy, the preapred environment, and daily routine. Since it’s a companion to the dvd there’s a lot of questions/answer portions, but toward the end there’s a series of questions that would be beneficial to anyone preparing a Montessori environment in their home (or already has one) and a set of good reflection questions. I’m definitely going to be going back through this one again.
- Montessori Aotearoa New Zeland: I came across this website while searching on the prepared environment. If you click on ‘Parents’ and then choose ‘Montessori at Home’ there are a lot of great links. I’d suggest reading Raising a Montessori Family and Becoming a Montessori Parent, under each is a series of articles written by different parents who are raising their children the Montessori way.
- On-the-Go Clothesline (Chasing Cheerios): A great practical life activity on hanging up clothes.
